Find a Clean Energy Provider

Wind turbines are a source of clean energy for providers

Maryland is an energy choice state, meaning you can find a clean energy provider and select your electricity and natural gas providers. This freedom of choice can lead to significant savings, as suppliers often offer rates up to 10% less than your local utility company.

You do not have to choose a new retail electricity supplier. If you do not choose a retail electricity supplier, you will continue to receive your electricity supply from your utility with no action on your part needed. If you do choose a retail electricity supplier, the same wires will bring electricity into your home and you will still contact your utility if the power goes out. Your utility will continue to respond to any emergency involving electric service.

Even if you choose a different supplier, your energy will still be delivered by your local utility company, ensuring consistent service. The main difference is that you can choose a less-expensive supplier which could help keep more money in your pocket.

How to Switch Energy Suppliers

  1. Switching Electricity Suppliers: Find an electricity supplier that meets your needs. You can review your choices at MDElectricChoice.com. Additionally you may want to make sure that the company is listed on the Green-e certified list if you’re looking for clean electricity.
  2. Switching Natural Gas Suppliers: To comparison shop natural gas providers, visit MDGasChoice.com.
  3. Participate in Community Solar: If you want to benefit from solar energy but can’t install panels at your home, community solar projects offer a perfect solution. By subscribing to a larger solar farm in your area, you can still enjoy the same benefits as if you had solar panels on your roof.
