Participate in a Community Solar Project

solar panel farm for a community

In Maryland, Community Solar offers a fantastic opportunity to participate in solar energy without the need to install panels on your property.

Community solar works much like a community garden: just like you can get a share of land for your garden, you can get a share of a solar farm which will deliver virtual credits to your electric utility bill.

It doesn’t matter if you rent, lease, or own your home. Thanks to community solar, any resident who pays an electric bill can take advantage of local community solar projects and save money every month.By subscribing to a share of a nearby solar farm, you can enjoy credits on your utility bill, which helps lower your electricity costs.

Starting in January 2026, Maryland community solar customers move from dual billing to utility consolidated billing. No action is required on your part. Thanks to state legislation, Community Solar customers will receive a single, consolidated bill directly from their utility, making the community solar experience simpler and hassle-free.

  • Groundswell: The SharePower™ program allows subscribers to receive clean energy and solar credits, with the added bonus of making a social and environmental impact in their neighborhood.

    Here’s how it works:
    1. You subscribe to the project and pay a flat, fixed price of $54.00 per month, billed quarterly, for a 3 kW subscription.
    2.
Solar credits are applied to your electricity bill for the clean energy generated by your subscription.
    3. Receive a tax deduction for the portion of your subscription fee that supports energy resilience for hard working households.

  • Neighborhood Sun: Neighborhood Sun’s Community Solar subscribers have saved over $10 Million on their electricity bills thanks to the clean, local energy.
