Types of Home Energy Assessments
- Quick Home Energy Checkup
Available to those who pay their own utility bills, regardless of property ownership. - Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Audit
Available to those who own their property and pay their own utilities.
What to Expect with the Quick Home Energy Checkup
The Quick Home Energy Checkup (QHEC) is offered at no additional cost through the EmPOWER Maryland Program. During the hour-long assessment, a certified contractor will evaluate your home’s energy usage and identify areas for improvement.
After your home energy assessment, you may receive:
- Energy-Saving Products: LED light bulbs, high-efficiency shower heads, smart thermostats, faucet aerators, efficient-flow showerheads, water heater pipe insulation, “smart” power strips, ShowerStart® showerhead adapter and advanced power strips.
- Personalized Recommendations: A report with tips on increasing your home’s energy efficiency.
- Utility Bill Savings: Recommendations to reduce your energy use and keep more money in your wallet.

What to Expect with the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Audit
If you own your home and are looking for a more detailed assessment, consider the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Audit, available to most homes for $100 through the EmPOWER Maryland Program.
As part of the audit, you will receive:
- Diagnostics: A certified Home Energy Expert will test your home for air leakage, carbon monoxide and gas leaks.
- Energy-Saving Products: LED light bulbs, high-efficiency shower heads, faucet aerators, water heater pipe insulation and advanced power strips.
Rebates: A report detailing available rebates to help pay for upgrades, such as insulation and HVAC equipment upgrades to make your home more energy efficient.
